About John Henderson:

The son of two teachers, John grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Surrounded by music and art, John found his way to the stage at the age of 16, whilst playing football simultaneously (on his father’s team, just like Troy Bolton.) My love of movement and expression blossomed into a passion for theatre. I taught myself to sing, and used to record dance videos in my front yard which I would post on instagram as a teenager. I fell in love with the way people moved, sang, and expressed themselves onstage, so I tried to replicate any step or vocal styling that struck my fancy. Hungry for opportunity, I auditioned for and got into the University of Arizona where I worked for four years to hone my passion into skill, and earned my BFA in Musical theatre in 2025.

I wrote my first 10 minute play in high school, and have not stopped writing since. My writing focuses on resilience, the queer experience, redefining normalcy in the face of adversity, and overcoming limiting mindsets. My intersectionalities have instilled a sense of grit and perspective that I don’t see enough of in the world.

My mission as an actor and a writer is to become the queer, black, diabetic figure to look up to that I did not have as a child. The grit I have had to develop from being different is a source of power, and I would like to bring that to other people. My ethos as an actor is to work to the fullest of my abilities and operate based on a same high quality standard rooted in hard work, preparation, collaboration, kindness, community, and growth. Let’s work together! :)
